GUEST REVIEW

The photos do not do this place justice. The land they the cottages are on is simply spectacular. There is much to explore and discover along the footpaths and there are various hot tubs all with great views across the water looking towards the epic mountains on the other side of the bay. The cottages are simple and cozy and have pretty much all you need.

BIRD SAFARI

The cottages at Kaldbakur are excellent base for bird watching; situated next to Kaldbakstjarnir Lakes, an outfall from the geothermal electricity plant which supplies Husavik with electricity. The cottages sit just above a major nesting area for birds. There is a beautiful bird sanctuary between the cottages and the fjord with walking trails throughout. Many Icelandic bird species can be observed straight from the cottage terraces. Binoculars are to be found in every cottage.

DIAMOND RING ROAD

Here is the webpage for Diamond circle. Kaldbakskot is strategically located by the exceptional Diamond ring road. Many of the most stunning  and beautiful places in Iceland are on the route; to mention a few: Ásbyrgi, Hljóðaklettar, Dettifoss, Mývatn, Jarðböðin, Námaskarð Dimmuborgir and Goðafoss.

Here is the first webpage made by the founder of Kaldbaks-Kot.

HORSE RIDING

The first people to settle Iceland brought horses with them from Norway, as well as other domestic animals. The horses, now called Iceland horses, are small and sometimes referred to as ponies. The breed has been isolated in the country for over 1100 years and is therefore considered a unique breed. Just 3 km (2 mi) from Kaldbaks-Kot you can go horseback riding at Saltvík.

Our goal is to provide our guests with environmentally friendly cottages by keeping them free of fragrance, mold, chemicals, smoking and solvents.

This is how we do it:

The houses are all natural solid wood from Estonia where forestry is under control, supervised and certificated by EEC. They are built with natural, solvent free, and non-toxic building materials with minimal negative human impact.

Chemicals and cleaning agents in our daily lives can be hazardous to our health and often are the cause of symptoms such as headaches, restless sleep, muscular pain, fatigue, etc. Therefore, procedures are to clean and wash with fragrance free detergents and earth friendly chemicals. This is to suit people who suffer from allergies, respiratory problems or chemical sensitivity.

When you enter our houses you might smell the sulfur from our hot water which we used to clean your house.

- The duvets and pillows are washed frequently at 60°C.

- The floor has no carpet, only small “cozy mats” which are regularly machine washed.

We do all our best to take part in environmental issues, therefore, for example, we recycle in our daily lives.

We also use clean energy from ON Power’s renewable sources for electricity consumption.

And as we are committed to environmental sustainability, one of our goal is to carbon neutralize every stay. In the meantime, we have been planting trees around the cottages for decades (yes, all trees around the cottages were planted by hand by us).

In other words, by staying at Kaldbaks-kot Cottages, all our guests support Icelandic nature.
